Using biomimicry, this pavilion and landscape design is an abstract form of a system made of organs that create life. Like the uterus, this design has a function. While the uterus grows a new life, the pavilion provides space for women to collaboratively make crucialdecisions about the process of bringing a new life into this world, and carefully considering the consequences for all involved. This space is also an homage to women and the importance of equality, especially when it comes to making decisions about our own bodies.
In our current political climate, women’s rights with our own bodies have been compromised. Even more alarming, the ban on abortion in several states will sentence many mothers and unborn children to painful deaths. However, for the mothers and children that are healthy enough to make it to term, new strategies need to be created. Fairly often, especially in very young women, pregnancies are unexpected and unwanted. In the 21st century the responsibility of raising a child can be more than some young women can handle. On the flip side, there are many women, gay couples, and singles wanting a child, and are unable to give birth. This speculative design is created to provide a space for those with an opposite problem to come together and resolve.
