India Brooks background and interest in architecture plays a key role in her process throughout her work. She highlights the relationships between form, space, and human movements, while crossing boundaries and blurring the lines between sculpture/architecture, performance art/theatrics, and instillation art/urban design.
India Brooks interdisciplinary practice combines architecture, sculpture, and landscape design. She merges these disciplines to create speculative designs to provide cultural commentaries, social paradigms, and places for spirituality. The chosen sites, always mindful of the natural world, are selected based on their potential to reclaim spaces for community, the environment, and to raise awareness for a variety of current issues. Her creative process and research involves the use of intuitive choreographed performances, speculative design models, and writing. Her speculative designs are created with the intention of sparking the public’s imagination regarding the rich possibilities inherent in public land use. Her work includes meditation spaces, research-based designs with models for meditation spaces and pavilions, as well as videos that demonstrate intuitive performative site-based responses to architecture, landscapes, and communities of interest.
