Archi-Sculpture

  •  My interdisciplinary practice combines architecture, sculpture, and landscape design. I merge these disciplines to create speculative designs to provide cultural commentaries, social paradigms, and places for spirituality. The chosen sites, always mindful of the natural world, are selected based on their potential to reclaim spaces for community, the environment, and to raise awareness for a variety of current issues.

  • My current research is informed by a BFA in sculpture and MA in architecture. In my current MFA research, I combine these disciplines to what I refer to as Archi-Sculpture. A term coined by The Guggenheim Bilbao, Archi-Sculpture “examines many aspects of the close reciprocal relationship between architecture and sculpture”.

Singular Meditation

Personal Contemplation

Personal Contemplation

Through architectural design, my singular meditation space promotes higher thinking about a spatial environment and the idea of spirituality as an individual experience.

Personal Contemplation

Personal Contemplation

Personal Contemplation

Contemplation is a practice that cultivates mindfulness, wisdom, and compassion. It is an intellectual practice that can manifest solutions for life’s challenges.

Wing Pavilion

Personal Contemplation

Wing Pavilion

The extreme cantilevered, cellular structure of many insect wings were my inspiration for this pavilion.

Wind Pavilion

Uterus Pavilion

Wing Pavilion

I designed an abstract form to represent the circular upward gust of wind.  It will be made of a steel truss structure for longevity and will allow the wind from the lake to pass through it uncompromised.

Uterus Pavilion

Uterus Pavilion

Uterus Pavilion

Using biomimicry, this pavilion and landscape design is an abstract form of a system made of organs that create life.  Like the uterus, this design has a function.

Retrospect Park

Uterus Pavilion

Uterus Pavilion

As a tree memorial, the columns represent all the trees lost through storms, deforestation.  The water being represented by steel has a double meaning.  It represents water in reference to storms, and also metal in reference to urban development; both are responsible for deforestation.

Community Meditate

Community Meditate

Community Meditate

This public sculpture/landscape design is meant for multi-persons’ meditation and contemplation.

Stingray Pavilion

Community Meditate

Community Meditate

This abstract stingray is a pavilion to bring awareness of unethical commercial fishing practices and the effects it has on stingrays.

Green Burial Project

Green Burial Project

Green Burial Project

This structure is an open ceremonial space for a green burial site.  The roof is constructed with stretched canvas so to reverberate the drumming sounds of the rain, while catching, and distributing the rate to reflective pools.

Place Making

Green Burial Project

Green Burial Project

A large contributor to the destruction of our natural resource comes from "Urban Sprawl".  This  project is using "New Urbanism to create a place that will allure future residents back to the city central core.

Marine Research Center

Conceptual Reading Room

Conceptual Reading Room

This structure was a conceptual design for a Marine Research Center in Amelia Island, Florida.  While being designed for a highly efficient research center, it also would be an educational, public exhibition for visitors.

Conceptual Reading Room

Conceptual Reading Room

This concept was to create a space with multilevel, private reading nooks within one larger space.
